The resurrection of Miss Belvedere

This year marks Oklahoma's centennial celebration, and there is no shortage of excitment here in the Sooner State. One interesting event is happening right her in Tulsa tonight---the unveiling of Miss Belvedere.

The car was buried 50 years ago and is being dug up for Oklahoma’s centennial. She is a 1957 Plymouth gold and white two-door with a hard top. She was wrapped and buried 50 years ago with a time capsule. She was resurrected at noon today, and tonight at the civic center she will be unwrapped and given to the winner of the population contest (the entrants are on microfiche inside the car). The winner is the entry closest to 382, 457.

The car was unearthed from its vault Friday afternoon.

People have come from all over the country and all over the world to see this event. It seems to be quite a spectacle. See the unearthing of Miss Belvedere here.

All of Green Country is buzzing about the car. We all want to know how she has held up, and who will win her, along with a savings account. We've DVR'ed it to make sure we don't miss one minute of our little slice of Oklahoma history. See the unearthing of the time capsule that was buried with Miss Belvedere here.
